Portland bank robbery suspect shot by police now in jail

KTVZ

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A grand jury is scheduled in early December to review the Portland police shooting of an unarmed Tacoma, Washington, man who is suspected of robbing a bank and a cash advance business.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Chase Peeples was released Tuesday from a Portland hospital and booked into jail on a federal bank robbery charge and a parole violation accusation.

The grand jury will determine if the Oct. 25 shooting of Peeples by Portland Police Officer Ryan Reagan was a justifiable use of force.

A federal court affidavit says Peeples is accused of robbing a check cashing store and a bank in North Portland. Officers spotted Peeples walking along North Oatman Avenue afterward.

Reagan shot him when police said he ignored orders to put his hands in the air and instead walked toward officers with his hands in his pockets.
