Oregon’s Bottle Bill adds many more beverages Jan. 1
The Oregon Liquor Control Commission reminded consumers and retailers on Friday that a wider variety of beverages, from energy drinks to kombucha, are being added to Oregon’s Bottle Bill and will have a refund value of 10 cents per container, starting Jan. 1.
The change is coming as the result of Oregon statute, ORS 459A.702, passed by the Legislature.
Most beverages in bottles or cans that are sold in sealed glass, metal and plastic in sizes from 4 ounces up to 1.5 liters will be included.
Some of the common beverages that will have a 10-cent refund value are:
Coffee/Tea Kombucha Energy and Sports Drinks Hard Cider Juice Protein Drinks Soda, beer, and water in sizes 3 liters or less will continue to have a refund value of 10 cents.
Beverages NOT included are:
Wine/Distilled Spirits Milk (Dairy and plant-based) Infant Formula Meal-Replacement Drinks OLCC has created resources for retailers and customers leading up to the transition.
2018 Expansion Overview Frequently Asked Questions “We want to make sure we’re communicating with everyone to make the transition as easy as possible,” says OLCC Executive Director Steve Marks. “We’re thankful to the legislature in allowing the manufacturers and retailers until January 2019 to get the proper labeling on the shelves.”
