Redmond police seek motorcyclist who refused to stop

KTVZ

Redmond police turned to the public Saturday in hopes of finding a motorcyclist who was spotted by a detective driving carelessly and sped away from an attempted traffic stop several weeks ago.

On Thursday, Nov. 9 around 2:45 p.m., a Redmond detective was driving behind a motorcyclist heading into Redmond from Crooked River Ranch, Lt. Curtis Chambers said.

The detective observed several traffic violations, including careless driving, Chambers said. The detective waited until entering Redmond for a marked patrol car to initiate a traffic stop.

Upon seeing the patrol car trying to pull the motorcycle over, the operator sped away “at very high speed,” Chambers aid in a news release.

Both the detective and patrol officer tried to follow, but discontinued the pursuit “because public safety concerns outweighed the necessity for capturing the suspect,” Chambers said.

The motorcycle operator was last seen traveling west on Northwest Greenwood Avenue from Northwest Sixth Street, not stopping at numerous stop signs, the lieutenant said.

Before attempting the traffic stop, the detective obtained images of the motorcycle and operator. To aid in identifying the rider, police released an image and some details about the rider and motorcycle.

The rider was wearing a purple, full-face helmet, with iridium face-shield, Chambers said. The motorcycle had purple wheels (rims), with a purple frame, but no front fairing, and a white license plate.

If you know or suspect who the person might be, you’re urged to contact the Redmond Police Department by calling Deschutes County 911 dispatchers at their non-emergency number,, 541-693-6911, or by sending a private message to the Redmond Police Department Facebook page.

“It takes everyone to make a community the safest in Oregon,” Chambers wrote. “It is the vision of the Redmond Police Department to make this place the safest in Oregon. We thank YOU for helping us protect your home.”
