Local Alert Weather – Mon. PM

KTVZ

Happy Monday evening, everyone!

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE WEST SLOPES OF THE CASCADES AND KLAMATH COUNTY. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ON THE PASSES WILL MEAN WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE MOUNTAINS ARE EXPECTING ANYWHERE FROM 8-16″ OF SNOW OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

After a mild start to the week with dry conditions we are looking at big changes by Tuesday. Breezes will gust out of the south tonight around 15 miles per hour. Lows will be quite mild under mostly cloudy skies in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Tuesday begins on a dry note, but sees quick changes by lunchtime. Snow showers arrive for the Cascades in the late morning and Central Oregon is due to see rain showers by the afternoon. Once the cold front passes we could see more snow than rain.

Snow levels begin around 5,000′ Tuesday morning falling to 2,200′ by the end of the day. The low snow levels mean those who are at an elevation above could see snow.

Temperatures will cool heading into the evening on Tuesday, which is when we can expect snow. Keep in mind roads will be slick by the evening.

Snow showers linger overnight into Wednesday. Those in La Pine and Sunriver could see around 2-4″ of snow and areas in lower elevations will see a dusting. Mt. Bachelor is expected to receive anywhere from 8-16″ of snow through Wednesday night. The passes will see around 3-5″.

Rounding out the week after the showers have wrapped up we’re in for downright cold days. Highs will not make it out of the 30s for Thursday and Friday.

The Holiday weekend is expected to be dry, but cold with highs in the 20s.
