Bend man jailed in break-in at mother’s home
A 23-year-old Bend man was arrested in a “high-risk,” guns-drawn traffic stop Thursday afternoon, accused of breaking into his mother’s home a short time earlier, police said.
Deschutes County 911 dispatchers got an emergency call shortly after 1 p.m. from a resident in the 63000 block of Northeast Lancaster Street, police Lt. Clint Burleigh said.
The woman said her son, Theodore James Giannioses, 23, who does not live in the home, had broken a window and entered the home, Burleigh said.
During the call to 911, the woman was forced to retreat to a room in the home due to a fear of her son. Originally, she mentioned he could be in possession of a gun, but Burleigh said this was later found to be inaccurate.
Before police arrived, Giannioses was seen leaving the home in a blue Subaru Forester, Burleigh said.
A Bend police sergeant spotted the SUV on Empire Avenue near Nels Anderson Road. Based on the severity of the crime, officers initiated a high-risk stop on the Forester, Burleigh said.
Giannioses was taken into custody, but he resisted arrested and caused minor injuries to a police sergeant, according to Burleigh.
Giannioses was taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, then to the Deschutes County Jail, where he was held without bail on a misdemeanor probation violation arrest warrant. His new charges include first-degree burglary, four counts of second-degree criminal mischief, assault on a public safety, DUII (alcohol) and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license.
