Man who detonated Medford pipe bomb gets 5 years

KTVZ

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A 35-year-old man who detonated an explosive device near a Medford shopping area has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The Mail Tribune reports that Justin William Keaton received the sentence Friday in Jackson County Court.

He pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawfully manufacturing a destructive device that he detonated Nov. 7 at the North Medford Fred Meyer. There were no reported injuries.

Keaton has no listed home address and has a long criminal history with a 138 prior arrests and an attempted arson conviction.

Circuit Judge Tim Barnack said that criminal history couldn’t be ignored and handing down a lenient sentence would be unfair to the community.
