Downtown Bend’s Summit Saloon shuts doors

KTVZ

A popular downtown Bend restaurant for the past decade, The Summit Saloon & Stage, announced Tuesday it has closed down.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce our closing effective immediately,” said the Facebook posting by the owners, Matthew Gordon and John Simac.

“Unsuccessful lease negotiations and economic factors combined to force this decision,” their note said.

“It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve this community for the past 10 years and we will go on with many cherished memories of guests that became friends and family,” the pair wrote.

“We wish everyone the best and thank you all for your business over the years,” they said, concluding, “Thank you all and the best of luck.”

The Summit was the latest in a string of restaurants to occupy part of the historic O’Kane Building, built in 1916 by businessman Hugh O’Kane.
