Four-alarm fire engulfs SW Portland office-retail building

KTVZ

A four-alarm fire engulfed the Macadam Center office and retail complex in southwest Portland Sunday night, keeping firefighters busy for hours.

KGW reported fire officials said the fire broke out at 7 p.m. at the building, in the 5100 block of SW Macadam Avenue. By 9 p.m., 75 percent of the building’s roof had collapsed from the blaze, they said.

Several businesses are housed in the building, and some workers were inside, but fire officials said all were able to make it out safely.

The person who called in the fire reported seeing smoke coming from an electrical box.

Firefighters entered the building when they reported to the scene, but had to pull back because of thick smoke and damage to the second floor.

They were forced to battle the blaze from outside the structure.
