DAYTON, Ore. (KGW) -- All eastbound and westbound lanes of OR 233 are closed a mile west of Dayton after a reported helicopter crash Thursday afternoon.

Dispatch audio indicates that two helicopters crashed into each other. An "aircraft emergency" was called in at 2:09 p.m., according to the Yamhill Communications Agency. It could not immediately be confirmed how many people were involved.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said the crash was near the McMinnville Airport and that drivers are advised to use an alternative route, as well as slow down and move over for emergency responders.

Yamhill County Sheriff Sam Elliot confirmed in an email to KGW that there was an "an aircraft-related incident" but could not confirm any further details as the investigation is in progress.

KGW has reached out to the McMinnville Airport and is awaiting a response.
