(Update: Police say incident involved mental health matter)

Bend police and fire medics responded Thursday afternoon to an incident on a northeast Bend street that prompted area street closures for a time until the situation was resolved, authorities said.

Police tweeted around 3 p.m. the “active incident” in the 2000 block of Northeast Full Moon Drive, in the area of the Summit Park Apartments.

A short time earlier, unconfirmed scanner reports had indicated a possible gunshot wound in the vicinity, and other unconfirmed reports from area residents were of an armed person at a residence in the area.

Police initially closed Purcell Boulevard from Neff Road to Holiday Avenue. About 15 minutes later, an updated police tweet stated, “We have resolved the situation and everyone is safe.” Roads were about to reopen minutes later.

Burleigh later said the incident turned out to be a mental health issue and that one person was taken to St. Charles Bend for evaluation. He said he could not release any further details due to patient privacy laws.
