Stewart scores 28 points, leads USC past Oregon State 72-59
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Elijah Stewart scored 28 points to lead Southern California to a 72-59 victory over Oregon State on Saturday night.
Stewart shot a blistering 9 of 10 from the floor, including 5-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Jordan McLaughlin added 13 points and 11 assists for the Trojans (19-9, 10-5 Pac-12 Conference).
USC remains tied for second place in the conference standings with UCLA, which beat Oregon 86-78 in overtime.
Oregon State (13-13, 5-9), in 10th place in the standings, played USC close but wilted down the stretch. The Beavers were outscored 17-8 in the final six minutes. Tres Tinkle and Drew Eubanks led the Beavers with 16 points. Tinkle had a game-high 10 rebounds.
The first half was a tight affair, with USC leading 32-30 at the break. The teams were statistically a near mirror of each other in shooting and rebounds in the half. USC led 26-20 with 5:08 to play before Oregon State made a small run to end the half.
Stewart, a senior guard, paced the Trojans early in the second half when he scored eight points in the first four minutes.
USC beat Oregon State 74-67 in Corvallis in their first meeting on January 20.
