Three jailed in Bend Wal-Mart parking lot drug bust

Police on patrol near Bend’s Wal-Mart spotted a suspicious car in the store’s parking lot late Sunday afternoon, leading to call-out of a drug-detection K-9 team, the seizure of heroin and methamphetmine and the arrest of three Bend men in the car, officers said..

Officers were “working proactive patrol” in the area off Highway 97 and Pinebrook Boulevard when they contacted the suspicious car in the parking lot, Lt. Clint Burleigh said.

Jordan Michael Gilbert, 28, Caleb Lewis Coultress Bennett, 27, and Anthony Ernest Sandoval, 29, were contacted in the car, Burleigh said.

With help from Deschutes County sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Johnson and his K-9 drug-detection partner, Ezel, police found several drug-related items, including commercial amounts of heroin, user amouunts of meth, drug paraphernalia, and scales and bags used to package drugs.

Officers also recovered more than $500 in cash and “a replica handgun that appears very realistic,” Burlleigh said in a news release.

The three men were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Deschutes County Jail. All three were charged with heroin possession,. delivery and manufacturing.

Bennett also faces charges of meth possession and was held without bail on a felony warrant for probation violation. Gilbert remained held late Sunday on $65,000 bail and Sandoval on $55,000 bail.
