Oregon’s Hebard hits 33 straight field goals for NCAA record

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s Ruthy Hebard set the NCAA record for consecutive field goals made for men and women Monday night.

She came into the No. 8 Ducks game against UCLA with 30 straight makes, which was the women’s record. She made her first three shots to break the men’s record of 30 set by Yale’s Brandon Sherrod in 2016. Hebard finally missed a layup in the second quarter.

Her streak spanned 11 quarters and two overtime periods for the No. 8 Ducks. When it ended, the crowd gave her a nice ovation. She made her next attempt.

Hebard finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She was 7-of-11 from the floor, and Oregon defeated UCLA 101-94 in overtime.

Hebard, a 6-4 sophomore from Alaska, went 12-for-12 from the floor against Washington State on Feb. 11 and then went 12-for-12 again in a double-overtime victory against Southern California on Friday. She had made her final six shots in Oregon’s previous game.

She surpassed the women’s record of 28 in a row that was held by Southern Utah’s Myndee Larsen in 1998.
