Sisters schools closed as snow returns to High Desert

KTVZ

Another storm brought varied amounts of snowfall to the High Desert early Wednesday and led to one school closure, in Sisters.

The Sisters area had more than five inches of snow in places. Sisters School District, which initially announced a two-hour delay, made the closure announcement around 7 a.m. Elsewhere, the Fossil School District was on a two-hour delay, according to a text notification. Central Oregon got less snow than many areas of western Oregon, where many school closures and delays were announced in the Portland area.

Other 24-hour Central Oregon snowfall amounts by 7 a.m. included about two inches in Madras and Prineville and an inch to 1.5 inches in the Bend area.

The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in place until noon for more showers.

Mt. Bachelor reported a half-foot of new snow overnight and 28 inches in the past week, bringing good conditions late in a to-now fairly skimpy winter.

NewsChannel 21 Chief Meteorologist said continued cold weather and the potential for more snow will linger the next few days before a slight warm-up.
