Fire heavily damages SE Prineville home, RV

A fire Thursday morning heavily damaged an RV and the garage of a southeast Prineville home, Crook County fire officials said.

The fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m. in the 600 block of Southeast Brewer Lane.

Crook County Fire and Rescue Chief Matt Smith said three engines, a water tender and two medic crews responded, with 17 firefighters total. Crews were at the scene for close to three hours.

“Our major concern is just taking care of the homeowner herself first, getting her a place to stay, getting her back on her feet,” Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal Russell Deboodt said. “And we’ll do our best to try to figure out what happened.”

“We’re currently doing the active investigation right now,” he added. “We do know that it started outside the home, outside the actual structure, so whether it was in the camp trailer or outside against the wall, we’re not sure yet. But we are definitive it started outside of the garage.”

No injuries were reported, and officials at the scene said they believe the house itself only has minor smoke damage.

“There’s a camp trailer on the south side of the house. It’s a full loss,” Deboodt said. “The fire then spread into the garage area and up into the rafters, and there’s some minimal smoke damage in the actual living part of the home itself.”

Prineville police and Crook County sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene. American Red Cross disaster responders were called in to help the one adult affected with resources for immediate needs such as temporary housing, food and clothing; comfort kits containing basic items; and information about additional resources.
