DCSO uses Narcan to save S. county woman’s life – twice

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies used Naloxone Hyrdochloride, or ‘Narcan,’ twice in two days to save the same La Pine-area woman’s life, the agency reported Friday.

Deputies responded just after 5 p.m. Thursday to a woman’s reported drug overdose, Sgt. William Bailey. Responding deputies arrived within six minutes after receiving the call and administered a single dose of Narcan to the patient, who responded immediately and regained consciousness.

On Friday, around 11:30 a.m., deputies were again dispatched to the same location regarding an overdose of the same adult female. Arriving at the scene nine minutes after receiving the call, deputies again administered a single dose of Narcan. The patient again responded immediately and regained consciousness.

Bailey said each of the DCSO patrol units carry Narcan with them for situations like these. Deputies can arrive within minutes of receiving the overdose call and quickly administer this live-saving medication. Deputies used Narcan nine times in 2017 and five times so far in 2018 during suspected drug overdoses, Bailey said.
