PD: Madras man accidentally shoots, kills self

A 21-year-old Madras man accidentally shot and killed himself late last week, police said Tuesday.

Police responded shortly before 5 p.m. Friday to St. Charles Madras on a report of a man with a gunshot wound who was brought in by personal vehicle, Sgt. Steve Webb said.

Alfredo Martinez-Urieta was pronounced dead by the attending physician, Webb said.

Police recovered a handgun used in the incident, and an investigation determined the gun was accidentally discharged by Martinez-Urieta, resulting in his death.

While a family struggles with the loss, Webb said the incident serves as a tragic reminder that “individuals need to treat all firearms as though they are loaded.”
