Deschutes County to mark Crime Victims’ Rights Week
Deschutes County will observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week during the week of April 8-14.
Each April since 1981, The United States Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime has helped lead communities in the annual observance of victims’ rights. During this week, communities across the country promote victims’ rights, honor crime victims and recognize those who advocate on their behalf.
Deschutes County residents are privileged to live in a community with such strong support for victims of crime,” said District Attorney John Hummel. “Victim advocates, Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice, Saving Grace, KIDS Center, CASA and many other service groups, agencies and organizations work tirelessly to advocate for victims of crime. On behalf of victims of crime, I thank them for their service.”
Ther ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10 th at the District Attorney’s Office. Hummel will honor this year’s winners and present them with their award. We will then hear from several crime victims about the impact crime had on their lives and how this year’s winners have impacted them. This year’s winners are:
· Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.
· The Central Oregon Tri County Major Incident Team.
· Deschutes County Deputy District Attorney Kandy Gies.
This event is open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
