Redmond Police seeking to hire reserve officers

The Redmond Police Department is seeking interested and eligible people to apply to become a Reserve Police Officer. RPD is currently accepting applications for a June testing date. The exact date of testing is to be determined. The closing date for applications is Monday, April 16.

What is a Reserve Officer? Like a volunteer firefighter, a Reserve Police Officer is an unrepresented, volunteer position who serves along-side full-time sworn officers. Redmond Police Department Reserve Officers receive specialized law enforcement training mandated by state law and department policy. They serve at the discretion of the Chief of Police and have full peace officer powers as grant by Oregon law.

Becoming a Reserve Officer is a challenging and rewarding way of serving your community while learning the many challenging aspects of modern-day policing.

Many of our Reserve Officers enter with an interest in a career in law enforcement. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain firsthand knowledge and experience in this field before deciding to dedicate themselves to the profession. Our Reserve Officers have taken full advantage of this career development opportunity, with dozens of them being promoted to full-time positions with the Redmond Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in Central Oregon and around the state.

While some of our officers are moving on to full-time careers, others make a career of being volunteers. Many of our Reserve Officers have well established positions in the public and private sectors. They are deeply rooted in the community and come to our unit with a variety of skills and life experiences that make them an invaluable part of our team. They are driven by a deep sense of civic pride and the satisfaction of making a positive impact on the quality of life in our city.
