Redmond transient camp fire burns motor home, trees

A motor home fire at a transient camp in southeast Redmond Thursday afternoon spread to trees and brush before crews contained it, officials said.

Redmond firefighters and police and Oregon State Police responded to a reported brush fire shortly before 4 p.m. on property owned by the Central Oregon Irrigation District near Highway 126E and Southeast 10th Street, fire Battalion Chief Jeff Puller said.

Crews arrived to find a transient camp with a motor home fully ablaze and flames spreading to several juniper trees and brush, Puller said.

Firefighters contained the spread of the brush fire and knocked down the motor home fire. Puller said no one was at the camp when crews arrived and no injuries were reported.

Crews were on scene for about 90 minutes making sure the fire that burned less than a quarter-acre was fully out.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, Puller said.
