Redmond woman held in DUII crash that injured teen
A Redmond woman was arrested on DUII and other charges Wednesday evening after she struck a 17-year-old girl crossing South Highway 97 in Redmond, sending her to the hospital, Oregon State Police said.
Troopers said the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. north of Odem Medo Road as the victim was standing in the highway median, waiting for a clearing in traffic. They said one vehicle stopped so she could cross and she ran across the road, into the path of another vehicle that struck her.
That driver, Buffy Lynn Dunnigan, 42, remained Thursday at the Deschutes County Jail, held without bail on a parole violation and also facing charges of DUII and methamphetamine possession. She was due for arraignment Thursday afternoon on the DUII charge.
Troopers said the teen sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital. They said OSP is working with the district attorney’s office to establish appropriate charges for the driver.
A woman who said she’s the teen’s stepmother said in a comment on NewsChannel 21’s Facebook page that the girl was heading to work at McDonald’s at the time. She said the teen suffered no broken bones but had staples in her head and was “very sore.”
Court records show Dunnigan has been arrested numerous times in recent years on misdemeanor second- and third-degree theft charges, as well as methamphetamine possession and criminal trespass.
