Camper burns in SE Bend; resident escapes
A camper burned in a fire along Southeast 27th Street in Bend Sunday night, but the resident awakened to smoke and got out unhurt, a fire official said.
A Bend Fire & Rescue “quick response” basic life support crew was in the area and called the fire in around 8 p.m., providing the initial size-up, Capt. Justin Struhs said.
The resident had moved much of his belongings to the camper while he worked on a “tiny house” adjacent to it, Struhs said.
“He woke up to smoke, saw the fire above him and crawled out,” Struhs said, adding that while the camper and many belongings were lost, the truck was not damaged.
The fire was extinguished fairly quickly, he said. Bend police provided traffic control in the area during firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but Struhs said it may have been electrical in nature.
