KTVZ

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded to a late-night rollover on Monday after the driver reported the crash himself.

Sgt. Kevin Dizney said 26-year-old Thomas Prinzing, contacted dispatchers shortly before 11:30 p.m. and said he fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his car on Powell Butte Highway near milepost 9.

Deputies found the crash and discovered Prinzing was trapped in his car upside-down on the north shoulder of the highway.

Dizney said deputies determined that Prinzing had likely fallen asleep at the wheel and there were no indications of speed, alcohol or other distractions.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Bend Fire Department, Oregon State police, Crook County Sheriff’s Office and Bend Police Department.

The highway was closed in both directions for 30 minutes to allow for fire apparatus to work to free Prinzing from the crash.

Prinzing was taken to St. Charles Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Dizney said.
