A 13-year-old boy who ran away from his home in the Oregon Water Wonderland subdivision south of Sunriver overnight was found safe Wednesday afternoon, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said

“Within the last hour, Michael Fenicle was located in a residential area of northeast Bend and is safe,” Sgt. William Bailey said in a mid-afternoon update.

“We would like to thank our community for their help in locating and returning him home safely,” Bailey added

Earlier, Bailey said deputies were dispatched to the reported runaway about 6 a.m. Fenicle’s parents said he left their home sometime during the night.

Bailey said dispatchers received two calls from motorists around 4 a.m., saying they saw a teenage male on Highway 97 near Lava Butte (milepost 148), waving a flashlight at passing vehicles.

An area check was done, but deputies were unable to locate the person.

Bailey said at the time the teen could be in the Bend area, trying to get to the Portland area.
