May primary election deadlines outlined

The Deschutes County Clerk’s Office issued these reminders Thursday about important upcoming dates for the May 15 primary election:

Tuesday, April 24

The Deschutes County Clerk reminds voters that Tuesday, April 24 is the voter registration deadline for the May 15 Primary Election. Eligible voters have until 11:59 p.m. to register to vote online ( www.oregonvotes.gov/register ) and Voter Registration Cards must have a USPS postmark of April 24.

April 24 is also the party choice deadline. Voters who want to vote in a major party’s closed primary election need to be registered as a member of that party (Democratic or Republican) by the deadline. Voters can choose their party affiliation online at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote .

The Independent Party of Oregon has opened its primary election to voters who are not members of any party. To request a ballot for the Independent Party of Oregon, voters need to complete and return the Voters Not Registered with a Political Party form to the Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on April 24.

Wednesday, April 25:

Ballots for the May 15 Primary Election will be mailed to voters April 25.

Thursday, May 3 :

The Clerk’s Office will test the County’s vote counting system at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 3. The certification is conducted before each election, and occurs at the County Clerk’s office, 1300 NW Wall Street, Bend, Oregon, upper level.
