OSU student who set fire, jumped out window in stable condition
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Officials say a 25-year-old Oregon State University student who set a fire in his dormitory room before jumping from the fifth floor window Tuesday was in stable condition at a local hospital.
The Gazette-Times reports the student is from Idaho and is in his first term at the university.
Oregon State Police say the student jumped from the window at Hawley Hall Tuesday night when officers began trying to enter the room because the student had started a fire.
Authorities say troopers responded to the dorm at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check on the student after he called police saying he was in fear of his life.
Police declined to give more details about the call.
Clark estimated water and fire damage to be about $60,000. Students were allowed to return to their rooms Wednesday, but some students whose rooms sustained water damage from the sprinkler remained displaced.
