Boy duct-taped, taken near Tacoma school found safe
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) – Authorities are investigating after a child was duct-taped and taken away in a vehicle near a Tacoma elementary school.
The Tacoma Police Department says on Monday afternoon officers responded to DeLong Elementary School on a report of a man duct-taping a boy and putting him into a car before driving away.
The News Tribune reports that a group of elementary students saw the man, who had duct-taped the boy’s legs as he sat on the ground.
Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says the students started recording on cellphones and called 911 after they drove away in a car. An Amber Alert was issued for a time.
Cool said Monday evening that the child had been located in Kitsap County and that his grandfather may have been the one restraining him.
KING TV reported Cool said he was reacting to the boy’s behavior issues. It’s unclear if the man will face any charges.
Cool says police will continue to investigate.
