Healing Reins receives $5,000 from Windermere Foundation

KTVZ

Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center is the recipient of a $5,000 award from the Windermere Foundation. The award will provide scholarships for low-income, high-need children and families, so that they might participate fully in the broad range of programs and services offered by Healing Reins.

Healing Reins also was selected by Windermere Central Oregon Real Estate for this year’s Community Service Day. During the June 8 service day, Windermere associates will volunteer their time at Healing Reins to improve and maintain the facilities that are located on a 20-acre farm in southeast Bend. The service day will include presentation by Windermere Central Oregon Real Estate of the $5,000 scholarship award to Healing Reins.

About Healing Reins:

Each year, Healing Reins helps more than a thousand individuals to meet special needs, address mental health challenges, and recover from trauma. Many of these individuals are burdened with extraordinary medical and mental health expenses; without scholarship support they would be denied access to proven programs that improve quality of life and help them to thrive. Healing Reins was incorporated as a non-profit in 1999 to provide adaptive and therapeutic riding programs to individuals with physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities. In response to need, programs have grown to include equine-facilitated mental health services; physical, occupational, and speech and language therapy, also known as Hippotherapy; and trauma recovery services for veterans. Healing Reins, a Premier Accredited Member of PATH, Int’l, operates with certified instructors, 170 community volunteers, and a herd of 16 horses.
