NW 14th Street neighbors say detours manageable

KTVZ

Northwest 14th Street between Newport and Galveston avenues in Bend was shut down Friday night starting at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, part of a construction and gnatural as line project that’s actually shut down one lane of 14th Street for a while.

People living nearby have had to reroute their usual commutes, and it’s affected pretty much everyone in the area, because of 14th Street’s central location in the neighborhood.

People who live in the area they’ve been fairly patient and that Friday night’s closure of both lanes won’t affect them much, despite being the start of a big, busy weekend in Bend.

“It’s disrupted things, but honestly, the construction workers have been really cool,” one nearby neighbor said.

Another said, “With regards to driving, it hasn’t been a problem unless I’m coming home, because you can’t drive south on 14th Street.”.

Another neighbor said she was frustrated by the noise the construction was causing, and that one of her neighbors, who’s pregnant, decided to move because of it. But she also added she recognizes the crews are going fast and have been professional.

Construction is expected to last through the summer.
