Police: Newport mom stabbed son, 6, several times
NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A 6-year-old Newport boy was stabbed several times by his mother before he managed to get away and run to a neighbor’s house, police said.
Newport Police Chief Jason Malloy told KPTV-TV that neighbors called the police around 6 p.m. Saturday.
Police went to the apartment and arrested Nemoria Lynn Villagomez, 34, the boy’s mother.
Villagomez had an infant with her when police arrived. The baby was taken to the hospital to be checked out. State officials will investigate.
The 6-year-old was transported to a Newport hospital and later flown to Portland by Life Flight helicopter.
Villagomez is facing assault and criminal mistreatment charges. She was booked into the Lincoln County Jail and held on more than $1 million bail. She is due in court on Tuesday.
