Idaho fugitive runs in Sisters; Redmond K-9 finds him
A Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy called to a domestic dispute in Sisters Thursday afternoon encountered an 18-year-old Idaho resident who turned out to have outstanding arrest warrants. He broke free and ran, prompting a search in which a Redmond police K-9 team found the hiding teen, deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance in progress at the Five Pines Lodge and Conference Center in Sisters, Sgt. Kent Vander Kamp said.
A deputy arrived and contacted Bailey J. Redwing, 18, of Post Falls, Idaho, about the disturbance. During the initial investigation, the deputy learned Redwing had three outstanding arrest warrants in Kootenai County, Idaho.
The deputy began to arrest Redwing, but he broke away and ran south toward the Sisters wastewater treatment plant, Vander Kamp said. The deputy gave chase through the conference center until he lost sight of Redwing.
More sheriff’s deputies, Black Butte Ranch police and Oregon State Police converged on the Five Pines complex and contained the area until Redmond Police Officer Josh Powers and his K-9 partner Maverick arrived.
After about 10 minutes, Maverick found Redwing hiding in the tall grass by the wastewater holding ponds, Vander Kamp said. He was arrested without further incident and taken to the county jail in Bend, where he was held on the Idaho arrest warrants and new charges of third-degree escape, misdemeanor eluding a police officer and interfering with making a report (a 911 call).
