Local Alert Weather, Fri. AM, 6.8.18

KTVZ

Good Friday Morning, Everyone…
The slow advance of a cold, wet system from the Pacific will gradually increase our cloud cover through the day. Out ahead of the cold front we will see temps rise to the mid 70’s to around 80 degrees. Westerly winds at 5-15 mph will turn NW at a gusty 10-20 mph this evening. Rain showers are likely tonight. Overnight lows will be in the 40’s and NW winds will back off to 5-10 mph.
As the front passes we will see cold air invade much of the state. With rain showers and a chance of thunderstorms continuing through Saturday and into Saturday night, we can expect to see highs in the mid 50’s. Westerly winds will pick up to 10-20 mph and gust as high as 25 mph. Rain will continue Saturday night as lows drop into the 30’s. Some upper elevations may mix a little snow in with that rain.
Campers and mountain travelers should be aware that conditions will become winter like beginning Saturday morning when the coldest air presses in. The freezing level will drop to 4,000 to 5,000 feet. The passes will see mixed showers with little accumulations, but snow accumulations at the upper elevations could reach 3-7″ by Sunday.
Rain showers and chilly temps will blanket the High Desert through Saturday night. A clearing and warming trend will begin Sunday and have us back into the low 80’s by Tuesday.
