DCSO: Fatal Deschutes River Woods shooting apparent accident

A 21-year-old man’s fatal shooting last weekend in Deschutes River Woods appears to be accidental, but the investigation is not yet complete, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Friday.

Deputies, Bend Fire Department medics and Oregon State Police responded to a 911 call of a reported shooting shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday to the 18000 block of Riverwoods Drive in the subdivision south of Bend.

Deputies said shortly afterward it appeared to be a self-inflicted but accidental handgun incident and that there was no danger to the public.

Sgt. William Bailey said Friday the man’s name and other details have not been released because the investigation is continuing.
