Passengers in Redmond soon will have a new transit hub to board and transfer between buses, making travel throughout Central Oregon easier and more convenient.

When asked about the significance of a new transit hub in Redmond, Chuck Arnold, the City of Redmond Economic Development/Urban Renewal Program Manager, said, “The city is pleased to partner with COIC on the development of the new Transit Hub in Redmond. This project creates a permanent location to better serve transit riders and our growing regional transit system. The location will also improve the connection for our developing bicycle and pedestrian network.”

The Redmond Transit Hub Ribbon Cutting Event will be held on Thursday, June 21 (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) at 777 SW Kalama Ave. in Redmond and the facility is expected to open in early July of this year. Event activities will commence promptly at 11:30 a.m. with brief remarks from local officials, funding partners and community members.

Funding for the Redmond Transit Hub was provided by Regional Solutions, the Redmond Urban Renewal Agency, Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council, Oregon Community Foundation, and a Connect Oregon grant.

The new Redmond Transit Hub features the following amenities:

· Real-time arrival and departure signs

· Passenger shelters, a covered bike rack, and restrooms

· Public art and a waiting garden

· Direct connections to Bend, Sisters, Prineville, and Madras

· Dedicated loading areas for each bus

· Park-and-ride

Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council was designated a Council of Governments in 1972 under ORS 190. COIC provides service to the counties of Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson as well as to the cities of Bend, Culver, La Pine, Madras, Metolius, Prineville, Redmond, and Sisters. Cascades East Transit, operated by COIC, runs a fixed-route service in Bend, community connector shuttles, and general public Dial-A-Ride services in Redmond, La Pine, Prineville, Sisters, and Madras.
