Bend office manager charged with years of thefts

A Bend woman who worked as office manager for a golf course design firm was arraigned Thursday on 16 counts of theft, ID theft, money laundering and related charges, accused of stealing at least $150,000 from the company in the past three years.

Bend police arrested Katrina Kennedy Cannon, 39, on Wednesday afternoon on more than 400 charges and she initially was held at the Deschutes County Jail on more than $4 million bail.

Deputy District Attorney Dan Reesor filed a 16-count initial charging document, called an information, on Thursday morning, before Cannon’s afternoon arraignment before Circuit Judge Thomas Kohl.

The judge set bail at $125,000 and Cannon was released from jail later in the day, pending a scheduled June 28 arraignment before Judge Beth Bagley on an expected formal indictment.

Reesor said the alleged victim is DMK Golf Design, David McLay Kidd’s firm that designs and builds golf courses around the world, where Cannon worked as an office manager.

Cannon is accused of stealing at least $150,000 from the company, Reesor said, and she “committed money laundering to conceal and facilitate her ongoing thefts.”

The filed charges include six counts of aggravated theft, seven counts of aggravated identity theft and single counts of laundering a monetary instrument, fraudulent use of a credit card and computer crime for allegations dating back as far as January 2015. The prosecutor said more charges may be filed before Cannon returns to court.
