Boys & Girls Club of Warm Springs receives grant

KTVZ

The Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation announced Thursday that they will receive a $19,550 grant from First Nations Development Institute to implement the Culture Club program at the Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club . The grant will increase cultural awareness among tribal youth through interactive workshops of artistic and historical value.

The program will utilize the knowledge and experience of tribal elders and artists, helping to bridge the generational gap and renew the cultural traditions among tribal youth. The Culture Club program at the Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club will serve our Native youth and the local community through the Tribe’s afterschool programs at WSBGC.

The Club will partner with tribal programs such as those at the Museum of Warm Springs, Culture & Heritage, as well as individual local artists and community members knowledgeable in tribal ceremonies and customs.

“We are thrilled to have First Nations Development Institute as a community partner to support our cultural heritage programming. Reinforcing our culture and history among our tribal youth is critical and we are grateful that First Nations will support this effort, states June Smith, tribal member and Unit Director at the WSBGC.

The program is scheduled to begin July 1 st and will run throughout the year, serving 160-200 youth.
