(Update: Police identify crash victim)

Police late Thursday night identified the woman struck and killed by a pickup truck on the Bend Parkway late Tuesday night as Stephanie Ann Rogers, 47, of Bend.

The pickup driver, a 51-year-old La Pine man, stopped at the crash scene on the parkway (Highway 97) at Powers Road and has been cooperating with the investigation, Lt. Clint Burleigh said.

Early information indicates Rogers was crossing from the east side of the road to the west side shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday when she was struck by the La Pine man’s Ford F-150 in the southbound lanes.

Bend police traffic investigators are continuing their investigation to determine a cause of the crash, Burleigh said.

Sgt. Tim Guest said Rogers died at the scene of the crash. Officers first on scene tried life-saving efforts on the unconscious woman, but they were unsuccessful, Guest said.

The parkway was shut in both directions for a time, with traffic detoured onto Third Street. By 1 a.m. Wednesday, Guest said, the northbound parkway had reopened but southbound lanes were closed for four hours, as was Powers Road in the area.

NewsChannel 21’s Jacob Larsen was on the scene shortly after the crash and said police were using a drone in their investigation at the scene.

The Central Oregon Major Incident Team was called in, putting up barricades and portable lights for the investigation.

Any witnesses to the crash were asked to call Bend police at 541-693-6911.

During the lane closures and investigation, a woman drove around all the barricades and police vehicles and drove up to the intersection, where she was stopped by officers and arrested on a suspected drunken-driving (DUII-alcohol) charge, the sergeant said, noting the danger that posed.

Bend police were assisted at the scene by the Bend Fire Department, Oregon State Police, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and Bend Public Works.
