AMITY, Ore. (AP) – A man suspected of sneaking into a woman’s bedroom in Amity was shot and killed by officers a few blocks away from the home.

KATU-TV reports police identified the suspect on Sunday as 27-year-old Kelly Kenneth Sutton of Amity.

Newberg-Dundee police say a woman called 911 at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday to report that a strange man was in her bedroom. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated. He left soon after.

About seven minutes later, deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said they found a man matching the suspect’s description about three blocks away.

Deputies reported “shots fired” a minute later.

Authorities put a Life Flight helicopter on standby, but Sutton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Yamhill County Major Crime Response Team is investigating the shooting.
