Better Together Central Oregon is currently accepting applications for full-year VISTA positions. VISTA members will focus their outreach and partnership development efforts in four priorities along the cradle to career continuum, including: early learning and wellness; supporting families; bridging vulnerable transitions; and aligning education/training with career.

Better Together Central Oregon — a program of the High Desert Education Service District — is a regional, cross-sector partnership working collectively to improve child and youth success from before birth to career.

“The VISTAs will serve in critical support of the complex social issue of ensuring long-term student success and will work to increase the capacity in various areas across the region,” said Better Together Executive Director Katie Condit.

According to Condit, the year-long VISTA volunteer opportunities to work with youth from cradle to career are available throughout Central Oregon. Some VISTA activities will include:

Cultivating trusting and productive relationships with organizations participating in after school and summer programs; Developing opportunities for youth to transition successfully to college; and Growing mentorship opportunities for youth in the region through Big Brother Big Sisters.

Program benefits include a monthly living allowance, health coverage, training, childcare assistance if eligible, monthly gas card, and an Education Award upon successful completion of service.

“We are so excited to partner with community organizations in the region to offer these AmeriCorps VISTA positions,” said Condit. “These volunteers will be making a huge impact on Central Oregon youth while gaining invaluable insight and experience into the education and non-profit sectors in the region.”
