Bend pilot’s body found in Colo. plane’s wreckage
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Officials say hikers in central Colorado spotted the wreckage of a Bend man’s plane that went missing after it left Erie for a destination in Utah.
Park County Undersheriff Dave Wohlers says the body of the plane’s pilot, 67-year-old Quentin Aschoff, was found in the wreckage on Mosquito Pass.
The Park County Coroner’s Office said Monday that it was able to confirm the man’s identity using his fingerprints.
The Daily Camera reports the plane took off from the Erie Municipal Airport on April 2 and was scheduled to arrive in Richfield, Utah later that day.
Officials said Aschoff diverted from the planned route. The last radar contact with the plane was near Grant.
Wohlers says the Federal Aviation Administration is working to determine the cause of the crash.
