The city of La Pine is looking to update the downtown area in the coming months.

The La Pine Urban Renewal Agency is looking at ways they can make the downtown area more inviting, that includes updating store fronts and making downtown building look more uniform.

The city’s urban renewal agency is still working out details of the plan, but the idea is revitalize downtown and turn it into an inviting and attractive place to be.

La Pine City Manager Cory Misley said Monday evening they are working toward rolling out a program that would help to partially fund storefront improvement costs to make all the buildings look more like what he calls a “Cascade mountain town.”

“This improvement program in conjunction with some of our other planning efforts will help set the downtown in a trajectory to make it more pedestrian-friendly, improve beautification and safety and make it a place where people want to spend more time overall,” Misley said.

The urban renewal agency is still working on details regarding the program and on crafting a code that will lay out details on how buildings should look.

Misley said the plan will likely be a combination of funds from the urban renewal agency and the business owners.

He said the plan is to roll out the program sometime this winter.
