Portland attempted murder suspect caught in Sisters
A 45-year-old man wanted on attempted murder and other charges in a June 1 Portland case was arrested early Tuesday as he got out of a car on a Sisters street, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
The Portland Police Bureau had contacted the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office late last week and asked for help in finding and arresting Alexander John Walton, sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said.
Detectives used surveillance and other means to determine Walton was living in the Sisters area and to establish a plan to safely take him into custody.
Through the combined effort of Deschutes County and Portland police detectives and the sheriff’s office SWAT team, Walton was arrested around 5 a.m. Tuesday as he left a car near the intersection of East Cascade Avenue and North Fir Street.
Walton was booked into the Deschutes County Jail and held on $510,000 bail on the out-of-county warrant.
Walton faces no charges in Deschutes County and will be taken to Multnomah County in coming days, Bailey said.
A four-count district attorney’s information filed last Wednesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court accused Walton of attempted murder, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, all with a firearm, and felon in possession with a firearm.
The fourth count notes Walton’s September 2011 federal court conviction in a September 2010 bank robbery. He was one of four men arrested for roles in a takeover-style robbery of a Wells Fargo in Gresham, east of Portland. A teller hit a panic alarm, but the four made off with more than $10,000 before police arrived, leading police in a high-speed chase in a stolen black Lexus.
