New Sunriver police, fire chiefs chiefs sworn in

Sunriver has a new police chief and fire chief. Tim Moor was sworn in as fire chief Thursday afternoon, along with new Police Chief Cory Darling.

Moor was previously the fire chief in Redmond, while Darling was a captain on the Bend police force.

Darling said he wants to bring positive change and stability after the controversial exit of former chief Marc Mills, who left the department earlier this year following charges of striking an officer.

“I think I bring something a little bit different. I bring progression and a different thought process,” Darling said. “I think we’re going to be able to do some really good things, maybe some things that are maybe not necessarily the norm for policing. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Darling said he wants to introduce programs that get his officers out in the community more often, noting they already do a good job of that. He also mentioned a wellness program for officers’ mental health will help them better serve Sunriver.

Moor, meanwhile, said he is already impressed by his new crew.

“They’re professional,” he said. “They’re eager. I don’t see any real problems. I’ll come in and just evaluate things, and we’ll work as a team to put in a plan moving forward.”

Moor replaces Art Hatch, who retired as Sunriver fire chief in August.
