DCSO patrol fleet getting a new, retro look
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office debuted three new Dodge Chargers in the classic “black and white” look Friday, the first of a changeover to occur over coming weeks and months.
Here’s the rest of the announcement:
These retro-looking patrol vehicles, with a modern flair, will be hitting the streets of Deschutes County this afternoon. Over the next year, we will also be adding the Dodge Ram and Dodge Durango in the black and white look to our fleet. These new vehicles will be replacing our in-service patrol fleet as their service life ends.
This highly visible black and white look will ensure we are easily identifiable and recognizable to the public as a law enforcement.
Sheriff L. Shane Nelson said, “It’s important to me the citizens we work for can easily recognize their Sheriff’s Office. When you see these black and white patrol cars, you will know it’s one of the hard working and dedicated deputies with your Sheriff’s Office.”
Historically, our patrol fleet has been a combination of both two and four wheel drive vehicles. This will be the first year all new vehicles being put into service will either be all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive capable. This change will allow us to better serve our community and make our fleet more capable, particularly in the winter driving months.
DCSO serves the citizens and visitors of Deschutes County over an area encompassing 3,055 square miles. Additionally, our automotive fleet regularly drives over a million miles each year. By having highly visible and well-maintained vehicles, we can ensure that no matter where and when a citizen needs our service, we will be there.
