Bend man hurt in Butler Market Rd. rollover crash
A 38-year-old Bend man was taken to the hospital early Saturday after a rollover crash on Northeast Butler Market Road, police said, adding that there as an ongoing DUII investigation in the incident.
Officers responded at 2:25 a.m. to reports of residents hearing a crash. They searched the area and eventually found an overturned Ford pickup with one person still inside, identified as driver Christopher Joe Stenkamp.
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Bend Fire and Rescue also responded, as it was initially believed there were others in the pickup, but a search of the area determined no one else was involved, officers said.
An investigation determined that Stenkamp was driving the pickup heading east on Butler Market Road when it left the road near Wells Acres Road and struck numerous trees and rocks before coming to rest upside-down.
Stenkamp was taken to St. Charles Bend, where a house supervisor said he was being released after treatment Saturday morning.
Police Sgt. Tim Guest said probable cause supports a DUII charge but the investigation was still underway.
