Lawyer: S. Oregon murder suspect too drunk to waive rights

KTVZ

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The lawyer for a Central Point woman suspected of shooting and killing her husband says his client was too drunk to remain silent after she was read her Miranda rights.

The Mail Tribune reported Wednesday that tests show Susan Marie King had blood alcohol levels nearly triple the legal limit the night she was pulled over and arrested near her Central Point home on a drunken-driving charge and suspicion of shooting her husband, Duane Levon King.

Court documents state her lawyer, Michael Bertholf, argued that she was too intoxicated to waive her Miranda rights after she was captured last August.

Susan King has pleaded not guilty.

She is being held in the Jackson County Jail and is scheduled to stand trial next week in her husband’s homicide.
