Crowded field of 12 set for Bend mayor, 2 council seats

KTVZ

An even dozen candidates will be on the Nov. 6 ballot for two Bend City Council seats and the city’s first directly elected mayor in 90 years.

Tuesday was the deadline to return completed petitions with at least 150 qualified signatures for each of the three open seats. Six people filed and qualified for the mayor’s race, while three candidates each will be seeking the seats currently held by Barb Campbell and Nathan Boddie.

Current Mayor Casey Roats, the last chosen by fellow councilors before voters changed the City Charter, recently announced he would not seek a council seat, having earlier said he would not run for the mayor position.

Positions 5 and 6 are available on the ballot for City Council. Position 7 is on the ballot for Mayor. Each winner will serve four-year terms.
