Driver arrested in DUII rollover crash near Sunriver

A south Deschutes County resident was arrested on DUII, assault and other charges Friday night after his car left South Century Drive near Sunriver and crashed through trees, rolling at least once, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 10:20 p.m. to an injury crash in the 56000 block of Venture Lane, sheriff’s Sgt. Don Manning said.

Initial reports said a car had left Century Drive just before the Venture Lane intersection, crashed through trees and came to rest in the parking lot of the Crossroad gas station, Manning said.

An investigation developed probable cause for the arrest of driver Allen Hammerman, 43, on charges of DUII, third-degree assault, reckless driving and reckless endangering, the sergeant said.

He was taken to the county jail in Bend, where he was booked around 1:15 a.m. Saturday on $25,000 bail and released about nine hours later to a responsible third party Saturday, a jail officer said.

Hammermann was wearing a seat belt, Manning said, but his front-seat passenger, a 34-year-old woman who also lives south of Sunriver, was not. She received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Charles Bend, where she was treated and later released.

The crash investigation is continuing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 541-693-6911. Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be factors in the crash, deputies said..
