Bend mayor candidates debating on NewsChannel 21
NewsChannel 21 is airing and livestreaming a debate from 7-8 p.m. this evening that will feature five of the six Bend mayoral candidates on the Nov. 6 ballot.
The city is about to have its first directly elected mayor in about 90 years. Over those decades, the city charter’s process was for fellow councilors to choose a mayor. Bend voters approved a charter update that will return the system to a directly elected mayor.
Taking part are Brian Douglass, Michael Hughes, Bill Moseley, Sally Russell and Charles Webster Baer. The sixth candidate is Joshua Langlais.
There are many big issues facing the city, from growth and its impacts, such as the need for affordable housing, to the controversial septic-to-sewer process for thousands of homes.
The debate airs on our livestream page, where each newscast also airs live and repeats afterward, at https://www.ktvz.com/livestream. The recorded segments of each debate will be posted on our Decision 2018 elections page at https://www.ktvz.com/decision-2018, where you can also view our candidate interviews conducted in recent weeks and the latest local election stories.
This is the first of two debates NewsChannel 21 will air this week. On Friday, from 7-8 p.m. three candidates in Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District – incumbent Greg Walden and challengers Jamie McLeod-Skinner and Mark Roberts – are scheduled to be in our studios for their only televised debate.
We also will air a gubernatorial debate involving Kate Brown and Knute Buehler on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 7-8 p.m., live from the KGW studios in Portland.
NewsChannel 21 has scheduled two more debates this month, one from 7:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with the House District 54 candidates and from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 with the candidates for two Deschutes County commissioner seats.
