A La Pine man was arrested in a raid on his home Sunday morning, accused of stabbing an acquaintance in the hand outside a downtown Bend bar after the victim confronted him trying to stab his car’s tires, police said.

Police responded shortly after 1 a.m. to a reported stabbing outside the M&J Tavern at 102 NW Greenwood Avenue, Lt. Clint Burleigh said in a news release.

The victim, a 29-year-old Bend man, said he’d had a confrontation with a man later identified as Adam Conley Richardson, 24, of La Pine, just outside the tavern’s entrance, Burleigh said.

The victim said he went into the bar and came out a short time later to find Richardson trying to stab his vehicle’s tires. When he confronted the other man, he was stabbed in the hand.

Bend Fire medics responded to evaluate the non-life-threatening injury and the victim later went to St. Charles Bend for treatment.

Investigating officers found a cellphone belonging to Richardson in the area of the dispute and interviewed witnesses in the bar. They learned Richardson lived in La Pine, in the 53000 block of Woodstock Drive.

Bend police applied for and got a search warrant for the home. Detectives, the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies raided the home around 8 a.m. and took Richardson into custody without incident.

During the raid, a knife believed to have been used in the assault was found in Richardson’s car, a Toyota 4-Runner, Burleigh said.

Richardson was taken to the county jail and lodged on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief and cocaine possession. His bail totaled $60,000, and he was released later Sunday after posting 10 percent of that amount, a jail officer confirmed.
